Credit-Rendering Certificate Programs
If You Are Going to Invest Your Time and Money, Make It Count!
Some very well known universities have, over recent years, begun to offer undergraduate or graduate certificate programs that do not result in the student earning any college credit whatsoever. Some of those programs charge $2,500 or more for a certificate program that only provides 25 hours of instruction, yet presents those who complete the course with a certificate they can hang in their office at work to impress their colleagues. That is NOT what we have in Degree Quest with regards to certificate programs.
The certificate programs that we present to students to consider require two or more college courses, (more often requiring three or more courses), which must be completed to be eligible for award of the certificate. The college credit that the students earn in pursuit of these certificate programs is transferable into degree programs at the appropriate level.
Undergraduate Certificate Programs
These certificate programs are typically sought by our students who need the credentials to help them gain or retain their employment. It is symbolic of achievement in the field of study and renders credit that can be applied to an Associate's or Bachelor's degree. We've had some students practically wallpaper their office with numerous certificates that they earned in pursuit of their degrees. The fields of study in which certificates are available are not nearly as wide as the array of degrees available. In some areas of study, such as computer science, there are a number of certificate programs available for consideration. There are many other fields of study in which there are no certificate programs offered.
Graduate Level Certificate Programs
The pre-requisite requirement most often held by the universities offering these programs of study is the completion of a baccalaureate degree. Some who have already earned a Master's degree, however, elect to earn subsequent certificates, as they enhance their portfolio and help them complete for promotion in the workforce.
We will enter the college credit associated with the certificate program into the student's electronic education record in Degree Quest. That way, when the student is ready to continue on and earn a degree, we can merge the credit into the curricula of thousands of degrees with the click of a button.
