Degree Quest Includes High School Completion Programs at a Distance
When most people think of the National College Counseling Center, high school completion is the least likely support they would presume that we do. However, we offer support to home school families with high school students, as well as high school drop outs, and can empower them to earn an accredited high school diploma from excellent colleges. We ask students to send us their academic records which show how far they have progress toward completion of a high school education - a listing of courses they have passed so far. We then build that into Degree Quest and merge the electronic education record of the student into high school completion plans from a number of colleges and universities across the nation that offer completion programs. We then present the student with the plans so they can make an informed decision on which they would like to pursue. Because most only require around five courses be taken through them to meet their academic residency requirement, there is a great deal of flexibility in the programs of study.
Why not take advantage of the tuition-free college courses that are linked in our advanced student support website, HERC, so that your high school student can earn college credit by examination. This credit could apply to the high school completion program, as well as give the student a jump-start on a college degree.
An Important Service to Home School Families
What You Have Done in the Past Should Apply
Regardless of whether you are using the A Beka instruction (which happens to be headquartered only three blocks from our main office), or another program of instruction to teach your high school student in a home school environment, the credit will likely transfer into the requirements for the high school diploma programs from our host colleges. As we mentioned above, the number of courses your child will have to take from the college will be minimal, thereby allowing you to continue to provide instruction to your child as desired.
This is an excellent opportunity for home school instructors to put the burden of teaching the really difficult courses on the shoulders of the instructors from the college offering the high school completion program. Then, the more enjoyable courses will remain for you to teach to your student. When all of the requirements are met, the high school diploma will be conferred from the regionally accredited program of instruction, thereby enhancing the ability of the student to gain admission to the college or university of his or her choice.
An Important Service to High School Drop Outs
You Don't Have to Eat an Elephant in One Sitting
We've asked students who challenged GED tests in the past what they thought of the experience. They remarked that it was like sitting at a table and trying to eat an entire elephant in one sitting. The high school completion programs that we use to support high school drop outs is totally different. How do you eat and elephant? One bite at a time. These programs of study, as we mentioned above, will accept the courses that you completed in high school before you dropped out. As such, all you have to do is finish the remaining requirements. Because these colleges minimize the number of courses you will need to take through them, you can also use our Hollywood-style video and online courses on our student support website to prepare for nationally recognized college exams. That way, you are killing two birds with one stone - applying the credit for the exam that you pass not only toward completion of the high school program of study, but also getting a jump-start on a college degree.
We look forward to helping you earn an accredited high school diploma, as well as being at your side as you continue on to earn college degrees. The sky is the limit. You set the pace.
