Identifying Information. In general, you can visit the Site without telling us who you are or providing any information about yourself. In some areas of the Site, we ask you to provide information that will enable us to process a request for support, offer services that require registration, assist you with technical support issues or to follow up with you. Generally, the National College Counseling Center requests identifying information when you:
- Request our services and support.
- Provide feedback to an online survey or tell us about an idea or suggestion for HERC.
- Request a SPECIAL SERVICE
- Request information or files from technical support or student support.
In these instances, the National College Counseling Center will ask for your name, address, e-mail address, phone number and other appropriate information needed to provide you with these services. In all instances, if you receive a newsletter or other mailing from us, you will always be able to "unsubscribe" to these mailings at any time.
What the National College Counseling Center Will Do With Your Information. If you choose to give us personal information for any of the purposes above, this information is retained by the National College Counseling Center and will only be used by us to support your relationship with us as a student that we are supporting. We will not add you to a mailing list, or newsletter without your registration for this service. We will only contact you if further information is required from you to complete a service.
What Others May Do With Your Information. The National College Counseling Centerdoes not share, rent, or sell any personally identifying information provided through our Site (such as your name or e-mail address) to any outside organization for use in its marketing or solicitations. From time to time, the National College Counseling Center may share aggregate information about its customers and its web site visitors to participating colleges and universities and higher education authorities at the national level. For example, we might share that our users are x percent students seeking undergraduate degrees and y percent seeking graduate degree support. None of this information, however, will contain personal, identifying information about our users.
Credit Card Security
We know customers are concerned about credit card security. The National College Counseling Center's Interactive Online Application for Support asks for prospective students to submit their credit card information for payment for the services and support that we provide. The Online Application Portal uses 128-bit encryption that is designed to give
you with a 100% safe level of security concerning the privacy of your identifying information.
Student Support Website Security
To protect
your privacy, we have designed certain Sites, such as HERC, to include certain steps to verify your
identity before granting you access. You will always have access to this website and can view
it, however, you may only log in using one computer at a time (work, home, or laptop). Access to the site using your login name and password by multiple computers at the same time may trigger an indicator that your login name and password have been acquired by someone that you know, resulting in re-assigning of a new password for future access. To access your information, you will
need to use the password that we assign each time.
When purchasing our support through the our web site, the order form will also
ask you to provide a telephone number. However, the telephone number is
only used to quickly resolve questions relative to an order, conduct an intake interview to determine your educational goals and past academic accomplishments, and provide follow-up telephone-based counseling support as needed to ensure you clearly understand the options you have regarding your current or future degree(s) that you intend to pursue.
Third Party Links
The National College Counseling Center does provide links to other
sites, especially in our advanced student support website, HERC, which has hundreds of links that our students appreciate. Other Internet sites and services have separate privacy and data
collection practices. Once you leave our site, the National College Counseling Center cannot control, and has no
responsibility for, the privacy policies or data collection activities at
another site.
Cookies
At times, we will use a feature on your web browser to send your computer a
"cookie". We do not use cookies to retrieve any personal information from your
computer. We only use cookies to learn ways to enhance our Sites, and to give
you better, more personalized service while in our web site. You can reset your
browser to refuse all cookies or indicate when a cookie is sent. However, some
functions of the Sites will not function if you refuse cookies. These areas of
our web site will have information posted about cookies, and when a cookie will
be uploaded to your computer.
Educational Privacy Protection
The National College Counseling Center collects information from our students regarding their previous academic accomplishments, as presented in transcripts from accredited colleges or universities, military education transcripts, professional certifications or licenses, and other relative information that needs to be entered into our degree exploration database. This information is secured and shall not be released to a third party without the consent of the student, which, naturally, may be required when you are ready to enroll in the college or university of your choice. We fully abide by the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (20 U.S.C. § 1232g and 34 CFR Part 99.31, 99.36, and 99.37). We ensure that not only information security protocol is maintained, but physical security of our facilities, as well, with monitored alarm systems in place to safeguard our computer systems.
Changes to this Policy
The National College Counseling Center may from time to time revise
its privacy policy. You should therefore periodically visit this page, so you
are aware of any such revisions. We will not, however, use your existing
information in a manner not previously disclosed. You will be advised and have
the opportunity to opt out of any new use of your information.
